The Role of Government Subsidies
Interviewer: Sneha, how critical are government subsidies in driving solar adoption? Sneha Prasad: “They are the primary catalyst, especially for the residential and agricultural sectors. The recent PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is a perfect example. By covering up to ₹78,000 of the installation cost for a home, the government is removing the biggest barrier: the upfront cost. Without this support, middle-class households simply couldn’t afford to make the switch.”
